Halloween Party!

Plop your pumpkin right here...

Grab a gumball!

I see that you've brought your magic wand!

Welcome to the party! I've got a story to share with you!

It was a day like no other....

There was no doubting the fact that the journey would be a long one. She had been waiting such a long time for it.

It was something she had been contemplating for quite awhile.

Had it not been for the messenger, this day might have been just an ordinary day...like every other day before it.

But right now, there was too much to do ...she couldn't spend the time daydreaming...

Wake up everyone! The time is now!

Hurry!

Enough fooling around...we've got things to do!

As she packed her bags, she thought about that morning.

The messenger had appeared at her window at daybreak...signalling her with the five warning caws and a flapping of wings.

Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw! Caw! "Today is the day," she said softly. She remembered the excitement she had felt as she jumped out of bed that morning.

I'm ready, she thought as she added the last few items to her bag...and just in time.

After hearing the good news, the Pixies decided to hold a celebration in honor of the journey.

What a wonderfully sweet thing to do!

She gobbled down the cupcakes... she'd surely need the energy for such a long trip...

The cookies were delicious too. She must remember to ask the pixies for the recipe...

What a lovely tray of beverages.!

She quenched her thirst with plenty of spirits...

This one looked especially good...until she spotted...

THIS! What to make of that?

She couldn't shake the eerie feeling that crept up on. The hair stood up on her neck... was it a warning?

Would the journey prove to be too difficult?

There was no use fretting over it now. She was packed and ready to go.

She placed her lucky bracelet around her wrist...

She donned her hat... and grabbed her broom that she stores near the fireplace.

She said one last goodbye to some of the guests...

...and gave some last minute house-sitting instructions to Redd the monster.

Wilma called from her perch in the hallway..."have a great trip!...don't forget the package!!"

She had the package safely stowed in her bag. "I've got it," she replied.

Her friends walked outside to send her on her way. There was Melvin.

Gracie and Morrow...

Clement was there too, and Gracie had even brought baby Zelda to the celebration. "Au revoir... a toute a l'heure," she said, as she climbed on her broom.

With a quick swishhh, she was on her way... There was no turning back ...

That had been several hours ago...she could tell she was on the right path by the landmarks...

...and the marked rocks along the way...

... her thoughts...

...turned to home. She would miss her friends while she was away...she was missing them already...
especially Pumpkin...

and.....

Bessie.

Oh! But just wait...she would have such wonderful stories to share when she returned!

The treats that the pixies had given her were starting to sound very yummy. But, she couldn't stop just yet...she wasn't about to forget the warning...

...that Felix had given her about the dark. NO, the treats would have to wait a few more minutes. Already, the first hint of darkness was starting to creep in. She wanted most of the trip behind her before it got too dark. She wanted to get there before midnight.

Below her, she saw a number of strange creatures...could they all be going to the same place?

At last, she saw a rest stop and pulled in to stop and stretch her legs.

She quickly ate the Pixie's treat...

...and grabbed a few extra goodies for when she got to her destination.

She couldn't resist this tiara...who could?

Was it just her, or did that store clerk give her a funny grin? ... Does he know where she is going?

She had been back in the air for only a few minutes ...when she suddenly wondered...

and gasped...had she forgotten to blow out that candle back at home?

I hope Slim will notice if I forgot, she thought.

It shouldn't be long now...

...she checked her pocket...Yes, the key was there...

...it should be just around the corner...through this thicket of briers...

and down this ravine...

Whew...

"I can stop here," she said to herself..."the rest of the trip will need to be done on foot"...

She walked on...

"WHOOOO goes there?" said the great owl.
"It's me, I've got the key," she replied.
"Very well...then proceed," bellowed the great owl.

She walked along an evergreen path until she came to a small bed of pine needles.

It was there that she stopped to open the package that she had carefully carried with her...it had arrived in the mail that morning. Instinctively, she knew that it should accompany her on her journey. Instinctively, she knew the time had come to open it. She slid a long nail along the tape and lifted the box lid.

What is it, she thought...some kind of cocoon?

...she gingerly tore away at the paper...

Two green eyes peered above the paper... why it's the fabulous Bird Queen!

....she knew exactly where to take her new traveling companion...it was the perfect place to freshen up...they had just enough time for a quick stop before they reached their final destination....

Here it is...right through here...

She opened the door...

The Bird Queen glanced at herself in the mirror and placed the crown upon her head.

They were off their final destination... to join the other guests...
She almost forgot her mask!

"Right this way," the doorman stated!

What a grand party it is! See you there!

The Beginning!
