Care package
I'm gathering a care package to send to Elijah, the little boy I sponsor in China. I love the Eric Carle caterpillar baby jingle toy and the bear lovey is so soft. I have to fit everything in a small box for it to get to the orphanage. If I can squeeze anything else in there and stay below the weight limit, I will.

Sunday sanity sojourn

It's been another crazy weekend. It seems like yesterday that I was writing about last weekend.
I really need a vacation...no, I really need the entire summer break.
I did get to go junkin' today...which I haven't done in ages. I went primarily to relax because it's been a really tough week. I was hoping to find some vintage millinery for my daughter's hair for prom. I found a few which I'll share when I can photograph them in daylight. I found lots of other little treasures too...one of which is this adorable coloring book.

Box Social
My daughter's musical, Oklahoma is coming up. The cast decided to have a box social like they do in the musical. They had the girls in the cast team up to make a basket of food that the boys will "bid" on. Instead of actually paying for the baskets, they plan on playing the game Now You Have It Now You Don't. A guy will pick a basket and other guys will have the chance to "steal" it away until they've gone through all the guys in the cast. Whoever ends up with the basket will share it with the two girls. I still think they should have broken from stereotypical roles and had the guys make the baskets!

Like mother, like daughter...I believe my theme obsessions have rubbed off on my daughter. The other cast member decided to make cookies to contribute to the meal. My daughter went a little crazy.
She decided to decorate the basket...

with a gingham...
and cowhand theme...

She packed it full of yummy food....and matching party goods.

She made turkey, cheddar, green apple sandwiches and wrapped them like this...
She made red potato and dill salad...fresh strawberries, brie and french bread, old fashioned rootbeer and a snack mix...
To add to her cast member's cookies, she included chocolates and a Cherry pie...
wrapped like this...

Yes, I do believe she is my daughter. She's learned this craziness from me.

I'm still trying to decide if this is really a good thing. I hope she has fun!
It sounds like a yip-ia-oh good time!!

Elijah picture A new picture arrived today of the little boy I sponsor at New Day orphanage in China. I've learned that Elijah underwent his heart surgery yesterday.
I hope everything went well for him.

UPDATE! Elijah's heart surgery was successful. Keep him in your prayers as he recovers.

March Madness

I haven't had much spare time for art or crafting these last few weeks, and I'm itching to get some free days...rather than moments.... to get my hands back into my paints, fabrics, papers and bits. I'm finishing up my egg garland to meet that deadline.... and that's been keeping me from going through total withdrawal....but, I really need A LOT more time. I'm afraid Spring will be gone before I even get to play... as much as I'd like... with those spring colors.

I'm even behind on my Easter decor...a few bunnies have hopped out of storage though.

I'm anticipating the Easter eggs due to arrive for the blog land Easter egg hunt. I sent this little collage along to Viv when I mailed my eggs in early March. I wanted to wait to show it, so it wouldn't spoil her surprise. It's a tribute to her beloved cat.

Some of the things I used included vintage cards and sheet music and Confections fabric.
Honors

With over 350 entries in the district science fair....my daughter placed second in her category.
She won this medal, a certificate and a cash prize.

I am very proud of her hard work, commitment and diligence. She has participated in the science fair all four years of high school.

Spring loaded weekend

My weekend's been jammed full of friends and food. Exactly the way I like it. I enjoy planning weekends with a full itinerary and that's usually NOT the way things go around here. It started on Thursday evening when I met a friend for coffee at Starbucks. Friday, I had lunch with another friend at Panera's and that evening my family met some friends for dinner and drinks at a local sports bar.

Today, I ate lunch at a downtown pub, and then dinner at Chili's.

Way too much food and drink this weekend, and now I'm feeling tired and sluggish. This is where I should say I'll have to add a few miles on the treadmill to counteract those calories. But instead, I'll just try to go lighter tomorrow...maybe I'll eat a few less Dove chocolates. :)

Got motivation?

On top of my culinary excess, my spring allergies have kicked in...gee... I only had about a two month reprieve from fall allergies. I'll be living on Benadryl for awhile. Darn pollen.

Weird dog moment.
Last night at 12:30, Bentley came to my bedside whining until I woke up. He never does this. He paced back and forth...pawed at the bed...whined some more....ran to the hall...cried. He wanted me out of that bed. He was acting like he was trying to tell me something.
Lassie episodes played in my head...is the house on fire? Is something wrong with one of the kids? Is a hurricane, earthquake or some other natural disaster about to occur? I checked the house, checked the kids, checked outside...nothing.
He didn't have to go out.. I know this because I've trained him to ring bells when he needs to go to the bathroom. Just the same, I tried. Nope...he didn't follow me to the door.
After awhile he seemed to settle down...whatever was causing such concern no longer bothered him...he walked back to his bed and went to sleep.
Lucky him. I stared at the ceiling most of the night.

A treat for the senses

I won a give away and my goodies arrived today! I feel like these wonderful treats are just perfect for me. I love parties and color and candy!
Look how awesome they look in this basket that I placed them in.

It's a color explosion!!!

These party hats full of sugar and sweetness are amazing.

These cones are simply divine!

Dianne has done an amazing job with these! I can think of so many ideas inspired by all that colorful fun! They'd make wonderful party favors for birthdays, showers...! Great basket fillers for Easter or fundraisers! They'd be great end-of-the school year gifts...or "just because" gifts.

Thanks Dianne! I love them!!!
Go say hello to Dianne.
Shop her colorful world of goodies!

First signs of spring

I saw the first shy daffodil blooms yesterday. The day before, they were closed. Look how they tentatively bend their yellow petals and shyly lift their blooms...as if they're not quite sure the winter is really ready to give up its hold on them.

Saint Patty's Day Fun

Were you guarding your lucky pot of gold today?

Were you wearing a wee bit of green?

The fairies gathered at my house today...

To join us in a Saint Patty's Day celebration!

Did you eat your corned beef...

and cabbage?
Did you feast on Irish soda bread?

and other goodies?

After cake...

we explored a little Irish lore...

the fairies kept us entertained...

until the evening surrendered its light to darkness...

and yet the merriment continued...

I hope you found the magic today.
